Goals for Week 41 – 2014

Today I started a new module which is part of my “International Media and Computing” master program at HTW Berlin. It is called “The Didaktics of Media” and the bold is not a spelling mistake, it is a hint that we follow the German theories in this research area.

One goal of this course is to create a learning diary – I’m going to explain what I learned about learning diaries in my “Daily task” blog entry.

What am I planning to learn in this course?

I’m planning to learn…

  1. something about the human learning process. What does learning mean? What is it that we call learning?
  2. how we can measure the learning results.
  3. how I can improve my personal learning performance. Can I organize my personal learning process better?
  4. how to explain in such manner that other people can learn more easily from me. What are the skills that a good teacher needs to be successful?
  5. how to design media products in a way that they allow a good e-learning experience. How can we design e-learning environments to support the learning process? What interaction elements do we need? Can we connect them to social networks to increase the collaborative learning performance?

What are my personal learning goals?

  1. I want to know about the human learning process. I want to be able to explain others how a human learns.
  2. I want to know about methods to organize my personal learning process. I also should be able to recommend them to others.
  3. I want to be able to teach in such manner that others will easily understand me and be able to learn quickly.
  4. Therefore, I want to know about methods to measure the learning capabilities of other people.
  5. I aim to have a feeling about how to create the best learning user experience for e-learning platforms. I want to know about how to design the GUI, how to formulate texts and dialogs and what are the best motivating interaction elements to improve the learning process.

What are my expectations?

I expect to learn about a topic that I didn’t really think of so far. I’m unfamiliar with the “Didaktics” research area. That’s why I’m kind of blind on this topic. Therefore, I expect moments of suprise like: “Wow, I didn’t notice that my brain works like this yet.”. I expect to be able to reflect the learning behaviour of myself and others – and also to be able to recognize the opportunities and weaks in there.

For the future after the course I expect that I think of “Didaktics” when I create applications and to be aware of the Didaktics principles.
